Over three days, by the shores of Sopot beach, young athletes from six countries competed for the ERGO Hestia Group President’s Cup. The regatta was part of the prestigious Open Skiff Eurochallenge competition organized for the best athletes aged 10-16.

“First and foremost, congratulations to the winners, but also to each participant. Everyone showed tremendous character, competing not only against each other but also against the changing conditions on the Gulf of Gdańsk,” emphasized Artur Borowiński, President of the ERGO Hestia Group. “This year, within just three days, we witnessed various facets of our magnificent Tri-City water. From windless weather to rainy and cold conditions, to almost comfortable conditions. Even greater recognition is due to all participants who demonstrated their versatility, and above all, the strength and determination characteristic of the greatest athletes. I have no doubt that during the regatta, we watched future world champions and Olympic athletes.”

The ERGO Hestia Group President’s Cup regatta was the second stage of the young sailors’ competition in this year’s Open Skiff Eurochallenge series. The first edition took place on Lake Garda in Italy in April, with subsequent events planned in Hungary and southern France. The host of the regatta was the Sopot Sailing Club ERGO Hestia.

“I am extremely pleased with the fierce competition that took place during these events. It is fantastic to see that young sailors representing four different countries stood on the podium in three different age categories. This is evidence of both fierce competition and the potential of sailing to unite people from different parts of the world through a common passion,” summarized Piotr Oleksiak, Open Skiff secretary

The winners of the regatta were Aleksander Grygolowicz from Poland in the U12 category, Sviatoslav Yasnolobov from Ukraine in the U15 category, and Federico Poli from Italy in the U17 category. Special recognition was given to Eashaan Mehta, who traveled several thousand kilometers from India to participate in Sopot.
